Towards fine-grained object-level damage assessment during disasters

چکیده
Social media can play an important role in current-day disaster management. Images shared from the areas may include objects relevant to operations. If these are identified correctly, they offer a preliminary damage assessment report and situational awareness for response recovery. This research is carried out collaboration with Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) understand state-of-the-art object detection model’s capability detect multi-hazard scenes posted on social media. Specifically, 946 images were collected during major earthquake hurricane disasters. All inspected by trained volunteers CERT and, 4,843 analyzed applicability specific functions The feedback provided helped determine existing key strengths weaknesses led development of taxonomy support functions. Lastly, using subset classes taxonomy, instance segmentation dataset developed fine-tune models detection. Empirical analysis demonstrates promising applications transfer learning

The introduction of concurrency complicates the already diicult task of large-scale programming. Concurrent object-oriented languages provide a mechanism, encapsulation, for managing the increased complexity of large-scale concurrent programs, thereby reducing the diiculty of large scale concurrent programming. In particular, ne-grained object-oriented approaches provide modularity through enca...
متن کاملFine-Grained and Layered Object Recognition
This paper presents a novel research on promoting the performance and enriching the functionalities of object recognition. Instead of simply ̄tting various data to a few prede ̄ned semantic object categories, we propose to generate proper results for di®erent object instances based on their actual visual appearances. The results can be ̄ne-grained and layered categorization along with absolute or ...
متن کاملFine-Grained Checkpointing in Distributed Object Systems
The paper discusses problems of checkpointing in distributed object systems and presents an algorithm suited optimally to their fine-grained structure. Usually, checkpoint algorithms assume nodes or processes as system units. This assumption results in a coarse-grained structure of checkpointing. We will show that this difference in granularity makes usual checkpoint algorithms inadequate. The ...
متن کاملTowards fine-grained adaptivity in web caches
Web cache complexity is growing nearly as fast as the WWW is expanding. As the size increases, the architecture becomes more complex and the number of parameters involved in tuning is growing. Tuning a Web cache involves a great deal of expertise, which is shared by many people around the world. But not every web cache administrator has the necessary knowledge to tune a cache and obtain good pe...
متن کاملTowards Fine-grained Citation Function Classification
We look into the problem of recognizing citation functions in scientific literature, trying to reveal authors’ rationale for citing a particular article. We introduce an annotation scheme to annotate citation functions in scientific papers with coarse-to-fine-grained categories, where the coarse-grained annotation roughly corresponds to citation sentiment and the finegrained annotation reveals ...
